Brian Herbert — Frank Herbert’s son — and Kevin J. Anderson have written the expanded Dune universe as a team since 1999. Working from Frank Herbert’s notes, outlines, and an unused manuscript discovered years after his death, they have filled in the eras before and after the original six novels and completed the story Frank intended to tell beyond Chapterhouse: Dune.

Their collaborations are grouped into several arcs — Prelude to Dune (the House trilogy), Legends of Dune (the Butlerian Jihad), the Heroes of Dune interquels, the Great Schools of Dune trilogy, the Caladan trilogy, and the two-novel finale Hunters of Dune and Sandworms of Dune. New entries continue to appear, making Dune one of the most actively extended series in science fiction.
