Dune Messiah

Dune Messiah is the deliberate counterweight to Dune. The galaxy-wide jihad Paul feared has happened, and Herbert focuses on what it means to have won. Political intrigue, engineered prescience, and the Tleilaxu ghola of Duncan Idaho drive a tightly constrained story that reframes everything Paul achieved in the first book.

Shorter and more claustrophobic than Dune, it is essential to the arc and leads directly into Children of Dune.
