Frank Herbert Books in Order
American science-fiction novelist and creator of Dune, the best-selling SF novel of all time.
Frank Herbert was an American novelist whose 1965 novel Dune grew into one of the most influential science-fiction universes ever written. Herbert spent roughly twenty years building the world of Arrakis — researching ecology, religion, economics, and power — before publishing Dune after it was rejected more than twenty times. By his death in 1986 he had completed six Dune novels that together form the core canon of the series.
Outside of Dune, Herbert wrote more than a dozen standalone novels and collections exploring consciousness, bureaucracy, and environmental systems. His son Brian Herbert, together with Kevin J. Anderson, has since extended the Dune universe with prequels, interquels, and two novels that complete the story Frank had planned after Chapterhouse: Dune.
