The Hunger Games

In a ruined North America called Panem, the Capitol forces each of its twelve districts to send one boy and one girl to compete in the Hunger Games: a televised fight to the death. When her twelve-year-old sister Prim is chosen, sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her place — a decision that will turn her from a District 12 hunter into the most closely watched person in Panem.

The novel is the launching point for a trilogy about war, spectacle, and what it costs to be seen.
